Samsung Electronics is going to improve its software production system with the support of Cline, an advanced AI coding assistant service.
The company said it would launch Cline officially next month after a succesful beta test period in its Device eXperience (DX) division, which includes its mobile, TV and home appliance businesses.
The strategic maneuver is a clear sign of Samsung seeking to go all-in on AI and dramatically increase the output of its software developers.
So in the same spirit as their open-source coding tool, the AI behind Cline was created to surpass the powers of the typical coding assistants. Existing tools are generally capable of helping with simple tasks like coding, Cline is able to understand and perform entire software development workflows.
That means a developer can type in a simple natural language command like “create a login function” and Cline will help write, edit, and test that code. This enhanced functionality is anticipated to greatly improve developer productivity, with reports stating up to a 30 percent productivity increase.
Introducing Cline is an indication of Samsung’s commitment to applying artificial intelligence to all aspects of its business. As part of this wider push into AI, Samsung has launched an AI productivity innovation group within its DX division.
This new group serves as a lynchpin responsible for the development of AI infrastructure and system architectures which span across the entire company, as well as facilitating the smooth introduction of AI tools into each business unit.
Samsung’s embrace of Cline, industry insiders predict, would not only make the company’s own internal creation process more efficient, but would become the new efficiency standard in tech.
This also further reinforces the trend of technology giants integrating AI within their organisational construct to innovate and complement efficiency. Cline’s beta testing will be done at the end of June and launched in full in July.
