In a significant recognition of their pioneering work in artificial intelligence and data, Huawei and China Telecom have jointly received the prestigious TM Forum’s Excellence Award 2025 in Data and AI Innovation. The award was presented at the Digital Transformation World (DTW) 2025 event in Copenhagen, celebrating their project titled “AI Agents Driving New Era of O&M and Transforming Customer Experience.”

This international accolade underscores the industry’s acknowledgement of the profound impact stemming from the strategic collaboration between the two telecommunications giants. The winning project highlights their success in integrating advanced AI with communication technologies to revolutionize network operations and enhance customer service.

At the core of their achievement is China Telecom’s long-term commitment to its “AI+ strategy,” which has been significantly bolstered by its partnership with Huawei. Through their Future Agent Joint Innovation Center, the companies have delved into the application of network foundation models and AI agents in cloud-network operations.

This intensive research and development led to breakthroughs in domain-specific model training and chain-of-thought optimization, resulting in the successful deployment of practical AI applications such as the Home Broadband Installation and Maintenance Agent and the Wireless Network Optimization Task Model.

These innovations have yielded remarkable results. China Telecom reports that its AI assistants and agent applications, built upon its network foundation model, have facilitated over 46 million service invocations by the end of 2024, with monthly active users reaching 120,000. Furthermore, 39 ecosystem partners have leveraged these tools to create more than 2,000 AI applications, demonstrating the widespread applicability and effectiveness of their approach.

Specifically, the Home Broadband Installation and Maintenance Agent has drastically improved service efficiency by shortening troubleshooting duration by 30% and reducing the workload of inquiry center experts by 10%.

The Wireless Network Optimization Task Model has elevated network performance, improving user experience by 10% to 15% in pilot regions and cutting the handling time of typical issues by 20% to 30%.

Beyond operational improvements, Huawei and China Telecom have also played a pivotal role in shaping industry standards. Collaborating with TM Forum, they have developed critical guidelines, including lifecycle management for foundational models and technical specifications for AI agents, aiming to transform their innovative practices into industry-wide frameworks and accelerate the intelligent transformation of the global ICT sector.

This award solidifies Huawei and China Telecom’s leadership in the AI+network domain, signaling a continued commitment to deepening their strategic partnership and driving future technological advancements and standards development in the digital communications industry.
