BBVA, a global financial services leader, today announced a significant deepening of its long-standing partnership with Google Cloud, with a strategic focus on integrating advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) across its global operations. This expanded collaboration will see the widespread deployment of Google Workspace with Gemini, Google’s advanced generative AI, empowering BBVA’s over 100,000 employees worldwide with transformative capabilities.

The initiative marks a pivotal moment in BBVA’s ongoing digital transformation, a journey that began with Google Cloud in 2011. By embedding Gemini into daily productivity tools like Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Sheets, BBVA aims to unlock unprecedented levels of efficiency, innovation, and employee experience. Early internal reports indicate that automating repetitive tasks with AI is already saving BBVA employees nearly three hours per week on average, freeing up valuable time for more strategic, customer-centric work.

“Our partnership with Google Cloud allows us to continue transforming how our teams work, make decisions, and collaborate, using the most competitive generative AI models on the market,” stated Elena Alfaro, Global Head of AI Adoption at BBVA. “We anticipate that Gemini with Workspace has the potential to simplify tasks and spark new ideas, which will significantly boost the productivity and innovation of our teams.”

Beyond enhancing collaboration and productivity through Google Workspace with Gemini, BBVA employees will also leverage the standalone Gemini app and NotebookLM, an AI-powered research and writing assistant. These tools will assist with tasks ranging from summarizing emails and drafting documents to generating audio overviews of complex findings and creating reports, further cementing BBVA’s position as a frontrunner in leveraging technology for business transformation.

In tandem with this ambitious AI deployment, BBVA has launched a mandatory training program, “AI Express,” to ensure secure and responsible AI adoption. This program, aligned with the European Union’s AI Act and BBVA’s internal data protection policies, guarantees that employees are well-equipped to utilize these powerful new tools effectively and ethically.

Isaac Hernandez, Country Manager Iberia, Google Cloud, commented, “This expanded partnership with BBVA underscores the transformative power of generative AI in the enterprise. Google Cloud is committed to providing the most advanced AI tools, like Gemini, to help industry leaders like BBVA unlock new levels of innovation and efficiency.”

This collaboration signifies a strategic leap for BBVA, promising to redefine the future of banking through intelligent automation, enhanced employee capabilities, and a continued commitment to pioneering digital innovation.
