Cybersecurity startup RevEng.ai has successfully closed a $4.15 million seed funding round, underscoring a significant investment in bolstering global software security. This capital injection will empower the company to advance its advanced, AI-driven platform designed to protect the increasingly vulnerable software supply chain.
The funding round was led by Sands Capital, with crucial participation from In-Q-Tel Capital, IQ Capital, and Episode 1. This investment reflects a growing recognition of the critical need for advanced solutions to combat sophisticated cyber threats, particularly those targeting the software supply chain.
RevEng.ai specializes in developing foundational AI models that analyze and understand binary machine code without requiring access to the original source code. This unique capability allows organizations to identify hidden backdoors, malicious code, and zero-day vulnerabilities in third-party or legacy software, a common blind spot in traditional security approaches. The company’s proprietary AI model, BinNet, is central to this offering, providing deep insights into software integrity, capabilities, and potential security implications.
“Our goal at RevEng.ai is to simplify and automate the analysis of released software,” stated James Patrick-Evans, CEO and Founder of RevEng.ai. “Our platform helps security engineers and malware analysts identify malicious components to verify the integrity of software supply chains without needing access to source code. This investment gives us the capital needed to develop the world’s first foundation AI models specifically targeted to analyzing software packages.”
The newly secured funds will be strategically utilized to accelerate RevEng.ai’s growth, enhance its proprietary AI models, expand its team, and increase its presence in the crucial U.S. market. With nearly half of all organizations expected to experience a software supply chain attack, driven by the proliferation of AI-generated code, open-source dependencies, and opaque third-party components, RevEng.ai’s technology is positioned to address a pressing industry challenge.
A graduate of the NCSC for Startups program and a participant in the Intel Ignite 2024 cohort, RevEng.ai has already demonstrated its robust capabilities and commitment to innovation. The company’s platform integrates seamlessly with Linux, Windows, and Android environments, offering automated security assessments and generating custom YARA rules to streamline compliance and development efficiency for its users.
