Trump’s AI policy aims to set global tech standards, says White House
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The White House has unveiled a sweeping new Artificial Intelligence (AI) policy under President Donald Trump, explicitly stating its aim to set global technological standards and cement American leadership in the rapidly evolving field. Dubbed the “AI Action Plan,” the complete strategy prioritizes accelerating innovation, bolstering domestic AI infrastructure, and top in international AI diplomacy and security.

Central to the administration’s vision is a significant push to reduce regulatory barriers and expedite the construction of crucial AI infrastructure, including large-scale data centers and chip fabrication facilities. The White House indicated that this involves streamlining permitting processes and ensuring robust energy supplies to power these energy-intensive operations. Officials have emphasized that removing “red tape” is key to fostering an environment where private-sector-led innovation can flourish unhindered.

A key tenet of the AI Action Plan is the aggressive promotion and export of American “full-stack” AI technologies – encompassing hardware, models, software, applications, and standards – to allied nations. The goal is to establish US AI as the preferred global ecosystem, thereby countering the growing influence of rival nations in AI development and governance. The White House has stated its intention to actively engage in international forums to ensure global AI standards align with American values and innovation priorities.

Another significant aspect of the policy addresses concerns about “ideological bias” in AI systems. The administration has indicated that federal agencies will be directed to procure AI models that are “objective and free from top-down ideological bias,” a move that has drawn both support from industry and scrutiny from civil liberties groups.

White House officials underscored that “winning the AI race” is non-negotiable for America’s economic competitiveness and national security. The plan also details efforts to empower American workers through AI-enabled job creation and industry breakthroughs, along with investments in biosecurity and the development of high-quality scientific datasets.

While the plan has garnered support from major American tech companies, who welcome the focus on deregulation and investment in innovation, some experts caution about the potential challenges. Concerns have been raised regarding the environmental impact of rapidly expanding data centers and the complexities of defining and addressing “ideological bias” in AI. Nevertheless, the administration is moving forward with urgency, emphasizing that America will “win” the global AI race and set the technological gold standard worldwide.
