WeRide Inc., a global leader in autonomous driving technology, has announced a phenomenal second quarter of 2025, marked by an unprecedented 836.7% year-over-year surge in its robotaxi revenue. This remarkable growth underscores the company’s aggressive global expansion and the increasing commercial viability of its autonomous driving solutions.
WeRide’s total revenue for Q2 2025 climbed 60.8% year-over-year to RMB 127.2 million (US17.8million). And now accounts for a significant 36.1% of total revenue, signals a pivotal shift in the company’s commercialization strategy.
The autonomous driving pioneer has been rapidly expanding its footprint, now operating in over 10 cities across six countries. Recent milestones include securing the first-ever robotaxi permit in Shanghai, enabling fully driverless ride-hailing services in the Pudong New Area in partnership with Chery Group and Jinjiang Taxi. This adds Shanghai to a growing list of operational cities that already includes Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Ordos, Suzhou, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Riyadh, and Zurich.
A key driver of this acceleration is WeRide’s strategic partnerships and technological advancements. The company has deepened its collaboration with Uber, committing to expand robotaxi services to 15 additional cities globally over the next five years, with Uber also investing an additional $100 million into WeRide. In Abu Dhabi, the WeRide-Uber fleet has tripled in size since launching in December 2024, with plans to further expand services to Khalifa City and Masdar City.
Technologically, WeRide launched its High-performance Computing (HPC) 3.0 Platform in Q2 2025, jointly developed with Lenovo and powered by NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor chips. This innovation slashes autonomous driving system costs by 50%, making large-scale commercial deployment more economically feasible. The new platform is already integrated into WeRide’s latest-generation GXR robotaxi, positioning it as the world’s first mass-produced Level 4 autonomous vehicle built on NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor.
Despite a net loss of RMB 406.4 million (US$56.7 million) for the quarter, largely due to increased R&D and administrative costs inherent in a rapidly evolving industry, WeRide maintains a strong cash reserve of $5.8 billion. The company’s strategic investments in technology and global expansion are expected to pave the way for sustained growth and eventual profitability, with analysts projecting it could reach breakeven by 2027. WeRide’s consistent regulatory wins and expanding global network solidify its position as a frontrunner in the autonomous mobility race.
