Dubai Launches AI Tech that Lets Passengers Walk Through Immigration Without Showing Passport

In a revolutionary move poised to transform global air travel, Dubai has launched a groundbreaking AI-powered immigration corridor at Dubai International Airport (DXB), allowing passengers to walk through immigration without stopping or presenting their passports. Dubbed the “red carpet” experience by officials, this initiative is a significant step in the emirate’s “travel without borders” strategy.

The new system, a global first, leverages advanced artificial intelligence and biometric technology to process travelers in real-time. Instead of queuing at traditional counters, passengers can now simply walk along a designated passage. The AI system identifies and verifies their identity against pre-registered data, completing all immigration formalities in a matter of seconds. This seamless process allows for the simultaneous clearance of up to ten passengers, a dramatic improvement in efficiency over the one-by-one model of traditional passport control.

Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA), highlighted that the innovation reinforces Dubai’s position as a hub of technological excellence. He emphasized that the system, while prioritizing speed and convenience, maintains robust security protocols. Any irregularities, such as suspicious documents, are automatically flagged and routed to human experts for immediate review, ensuring that security is never compromised.

This AI corridor is the latest in a series of smart travel initiatives at DXB, which has been the world’s busiest international airport for over a decade. It builds on the success of the “Smart Gates” and other biometric systems, further streamlining the passenger journey. For eligible travelers, the need to fumble for documents or wait in long queues is a thing of the past.

The launch is not merely an upgrade in airport infrastructure; it is a statement of intent. By leading the charge in automated, document-free travel, Dubai is setting a new global benchmark for the future of aviation. The initiative is a testament to the city’s commitment to leveraging technology to create a frictionless, secure, and world-class travel experience that reflects the UAE’s progressive and hospitable identity. As other airports look to the future, Dubai is already living it, transforming the way people move across borders.
