First ever declaration on responsible AI for the SDGs is launched at annual Hamburg sustainability Conference (HSC) The world politicians, businesses, scientists, and civic society leaders endorsed last June the Hamburg Declaration on responsible AI for the SDGs at the Hamburg Sustainability Conference.

This announcement is the first such global initiative designed to harness AI as a force for good, for global development to be pursued responsibly and inclusively.

The Hamburg Declaration represents the result of extensive consultations launched at HSC 2024, and presents common principles and voluntary actions intended to foster fair, inclusive and sustainable development through global application of AI.

Focus areas include respect of human rights, protection of vulnerable communities, and disinformation. The signatories committed to improving the resource efficiency of AI systems, increasing the number of women and girls with access to AI education, and supporting AI innovations in developing and emerging countries.

“), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator, Achim Steiner said, “This declaration could not be more timely, as we’re entering into a new age for AI. openhumans The untapped potential that AI could bring to developing and emerging economies is immense, and this declaration is a step towards leveraging AI towards that end in a responsible and equitable manner.

Reem Alabali-Radovan, German Development Minister, highlighted the challenge of achieving a fair and sustainable access to AI at a global level, as she looked ahead to AI as a force for inclusion, equality and sustainable development.

The declaration is organised according to the 2030 Agenda’s five pillars (People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnerships). It demands collective action, transparency, accountability, and the inclusivity of partnerships that will guarantee that AI will benefit all.

Combining Microsoft’s Responsible AI principles and e&’s Responsible AI Framework with initiatives like this, global stakeholders hope to go beyond words and intent and support the development of a future where AI’s incredible capabilities are used to make sustainable progress more universally accessible.

The Hamburg Declaration is the new standard for ethical AI and it calls on us to work together to close the digital divide and make the digital future fairer for everyone.
