Kyndryl and Google Cloud are expanding their alliance to develop the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for sustainable energy solutions for global business. Together the partnership is set to assist companies to modernize their IT and reach critical environmental sustainability targets, an increasing focus of businesses worldwi de.
A June 11, 2025, press release from Kyndryl announces that Kyndryl earned the “Google Cloud Ready – Energy & Carbon” designation. By doing so, Kyndryl becomes one of the earliest services providers with the capabilities in the Google Cloud Partner Advantage Program to assist clients plan, build and operate more sustainable IT environments.
That effort comes at a crucial time when a Kyndryl study found that 90% of businesses see sustainability as the tech appearing on their top priorities, and that 27% say they have seen specific results like an actual lowering of emissions.
Through the expanded collaboration, Kyndryl Consult specialists who bring deep expertise in infrastructure management and climate action will collaborate closely with Google Cloud on customer sustainability projects. Key areas of focus include:
Carbon-aware workload placement: Using insights from the full-fidelity on-premise, hybrid, and cloud native environments to minimize the carbon footprint, while strategically mapping AI workloads to the geographies with the most carbon-efficient supply-chain globally. This is the most of the renewable energy and respects data sovereignty.
Streamlining IT energy: Organizations can find and eliminate inefficient, power-hungry workloads throughout the technology estate. Insights driven by AI will then be applied to optimise system and application performance, and to meet global and local regulatory requirements.
Sustainable Large Language Models (LLMs): using Kyndryl’s LLM Operations (LLMOps) Framework as the springboard, the collaboratory will support the creation of enterprise LLMs that can be built without exceeding carbon budgets.
This initiative goes beyond purely energy efficiency, as the previous announcement back in March 2025 cited a focus of the maturation of mainframe modernization with generative AI to deliver “more sustainable code. With the combination of Kyndryl’s IT infrastructure know-how and Google Cloud’s state of the art AI strengths, the partnership is offering companies a path to both lower carbon emissions and deliver operational efficiencies that future-proof their IT estates.
The collaboration highlights a mutual focus on equipping organisations with the solutions and technologies required to support a more responsible, low-carbon future through smart, AI-led products and services.
