Samsung and Perplexity in Discussions to Integrate AI Search on Devices

Samsung Electronics is said to be in final negotiations with an AI powered search engine startup Perplexity AI, to integrate its unique search technology into new Samsung devices.

People familiar with the agreement say the partnership is intended to preinstall the Perplexity app and assistant on future Galaxy devices, including possibly the hotly anticipated Galaxy S26 series that is said to arrive early, early 2026.

The talks haven’t been limited to just pre-loading the application onto a device. The partnership is under consideration and would involve bringing Perplexity search directly into Samsung’s in-house web browser.

Additionally, there are rumors that Perplexity’s A.I. could be utilized into improving Samsung’s current virtual assistant, Bixby. such deep integration naturally implies that Samsung may plan to offer Perplexity as a default assistant on its next-gen flagships.” This rich integration could indicate a move to make Perplexity one of the default old school assistant options on Samsung’s next batch of flagships.

If a deal is reached it would mark something of a departure for Samsung, which has in the past used Google’s AI offerings, such as by incorporating Gemini into its more recent Galaxy devices.

With collaboration with Perplexity, Samsung seeks to create multiple AI partnerships akin to what Apple is doing. For Perplexity, which inked a similar integration deal with Motorola earlier this year, this potential partnership with the world’s biggest mobile maker would be its largest yet in the mobile space, and would enable it to reach a wider user base.

What’s more, the partnership might see Samsung spend a pretty penny on PerPLEXity’s ”second round of funding,” as the AI company is apparently hoping to raise half a billy at a valuation of $14 billion. The funding would merely consolidate this partnership even more, as it would allow Perplexity to continue investing in the expansion of its operations, and core business.

Curiously enough, Apple is also said to be interested in Perplexity, looking at it as a possible substitute for Google set of results and for saying ask Siri. Still, it’s unclear what the role of Samsung, one of Apple’s closest rivals, on any deal with Apple would be.

The inclusion of Perplexity’s AI search may perhaps result in a more seamless and contextually aware search experience for users of Samsung’s devices and browser. It also paves the way for a Bixby assistant that’s perhaps more intelligent and versatile than what we have now.

Although the specifics of the deal aren’t known yet and the terms of the agreement are still being negotiated, they talk about a future in which users would be able to use various different kinds of AI technology on their phones, and potentially a future where more collaboration between AI developers and mobile brands will be allowed. An official announcement on the partnership is due later this year.
