Workday, a leader in enterprise AI for managing people, money, and resources, today announced the release of a new, unified workforce planning solution.
Announced at Workday DevCon 2025, the company’s annual developer conference, this end-to-end suite aims to help customer and partner developers quickly and effortlessly build, personalize, and integrate AI agents and applications within the Workday platform.
A fragmenting AI landscape is creating challenges for developers, and the new toolset is designed to put the power of Workday Illuminate into their hands. Matthew Grippo, senior vice president of core software at Workday, developers are under immense pressure to bring highly advanced AI apps to market as quickly as possible in a fragmented and complicated AI landscape.
With this new set of AI developer tools, Workday wants to eliminate those barriers by allowing the developers empowered to build the future of work to easily include powerful AI capabilities and intelligence-driven functions directly into the apps and agents they are building.
Key new feature additions to the toolset:
Agent Gateway: Introducing Agent Gateway, which enables third-party AI agents to integrate with Workday’s Agent System of Record (ASOR) so agents can easily register and collaborate with other agents. It also eases partner onboarding for the new Workday Agent Partner Network and agent listing on the Workday Marketplace.
AI Widgets: Now, developers can quickly embed AI-powered widgets into applications for personalized AI assistance in content creation and understanding for use cases spanning HR and finance.
These widgets can provide automated responses, lead users through procedures, and create a more compelling user experience.
Enhanced AI Gateway APIs: These APIs allow developers to instantly incorporate new Workday AI capabilities directly into their applications. Doing so enables end-users to use the natural language to query reports, as well as comprehend documents, such as automatic document classification and key information extraction.
And Workday is expanding its Developer Copilot, a conversational AI companion that helps write code. In addition to building on the increased productivity – over 50% according to its early results – of Developer Copilot, developers will be able to write app code snippets and data queries, get high-context API suggestions and instantly create and document orchestrations. Workday Developer CLI—A new command-line interface tool, available at launch, that automates development tasks and simplifies DevOps workflows.
Based on the comprehensive Workday Illuminate AI platform, which analyzes more than 1 trillion transactions annually, the new capabilities are powered by deep contextual knowledge of HR and financial data.
The Agent Gateway is expected to be available to early adopter customers within 2025, with general availability of Workday AI Services, AI Widgets, expanded Developer Copilot capabilities and Workday Developer CLI also planned for within 2025. Strategically, this move also solidifies Workday’s commitment to becoming a linchpin in the ecosystem of enterprise AI management.
