LONDON – 19 May 2025: CyberCube, the leading cyber risk analytics provider for the (re)insurance industry, and Aviva plc, a UK insurer and a major provider of general and life insurance, have entered a strategic partnership that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help Aviva stay ahead of the increasing cyber threat.

As part of the partnership, Aviva will leverage the CyberCube “Portfolio Threat Actor Intelligence” product, alongside the CyberCube data-driven approach and unique suite of cyber analytics software to access unique intelligence on the operations of cyber threat actors and their targets of choice.

By utilising AI, and large language models (LLMs) in particular, the CyberCube service will assess vast amounts digital forensics data and details of data leaks linked to leading ransomware groups. This advanced analysis will allow Aviva to gain an in-depth insight into the dark side, how bad actors behave, what type of deployment tactics they use and the types of vulnerabilities they target.

This enhanced intelligence will enable Aviva to identify firms in its commercial portfolio sharing traits, technology dependencies or security weaknesses, which may make them a greater risk of certain cyber threat actors. This kind of precision in exposure management is a huge leap forward for the insurance industry to be able to be proactive around cyber risk.

James Mitchell, Senior Cyber Pricing and Exposure Manager at Aviva added: “The partnership provides much need security “The risk of cyber-attacks can no longer be ignored and by working with the likes of CFC we can help UK businesses stay one step ahead. Aviva has extensively validated Portfolio Threat Actor Intelligence in respect of a number of ransomware1 groups that are pertinent to our commercial portfolio. By integrating this combination of cyber analytics and threat intelligence into our underwriting and exposure management, we are able to realise even greater understanding of our portfolios and ensure the best possible management of cyber risk for both us and our customers.”

William Altman, head of Cyber Threat Intelligence Services at CyberCube, said: ”Portfolio Threat Actor Intelligence is a groundbreaking tool for managing cyber insurance portfolio risk. This capability helps Aviva’s Exposure Management team identify companies in its portfolio2 with firmographic characteristics, technology dependencies and security weaknesses that could make them attractive to various types of cyber threat actors.”

Aviva to integrate Portfolio Threat Actor Intelligence on a quarterly basis, becoming the first insurer to undertake a proactive and repeated approach to threat-informed underwriting and portfolio management. This will allow Aviva to not only stay ahead of the curve, and to support the fight against the dynamic and evolving cyber threat and digital landscape.

Additionally, CyberCube and Aviva will work together regularly to discuss and update threat intelligence, so their analyses are based on the most current threats and methods.

This collaboration represents an important milestone for a more proactive AI-driven management of cyber risks in the insurance industry, with a view to enabling a better protection of businesses and reinforcing their cyber resilience.
