In a significant move aimed at shaping the responsible evolution of artificial intelligence, the AI for Human International Foundation (the “Foundation”) officially commenced operations on July 9, 2025. This landmark establishment seeks to create the world’s first “Technology + Governance” dual-wheel drive platform, uniting diverse stakeholders to tackle the ethical, regulatory, and governance challenges posed by the rapid advancements in AI.
The Foundation was co-founded by prominent figures including Mr. Nicholas Chan Hiu-fung, Hong Kong Deputy to the National People’s Congress, Ms. Sun Mingjun, President of the Zhongguancun Intelligent Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, and Mr. Fung Yui Kong, Founder of Pangaea Connectivity Technology Limited. Their collective vision is to ensure that AI development proceeds in a manner that benefits humanity, rather than top to unforeseen societal disruptions.
A core objective of the Foundation is to conduct in-depth research into AI governance, focusing on critical areas such as data security, privacy protection, and the regulation of generative AI. By proposing effective governance and development solutions, and actively publishing reports, the Foundation aims to enhance industry influence and guide policy-making worldwide.
“The purpose of the Foundation is to address the global demand for AI technology, and then to bridge the gap between supply and demand for AI, such as governance, ethics, and global implications,” stated Ms. Sun Mingjun, Chairman of the Foundation.
Beyond research, the Foundation plans to foster international collaboration through various initiatives. This includes organizing salon meetings on AI intellectual property, launching industry surveys, and forming expert working groups to draft industry standards and technical specifications. The establishment of an international exchange platform and the hosting of global conferences are also key components of their strategy to promote technology globalization and information sharing.
Mr. Fung Yui Kong, Vice Chairman of the Foundation, highlighted the increasing relevance of AI in daily life and its enormous future development potential. He emphasized the Foundation’s timely establishment to address the need for robust governance alongside technological growth.
In the latter half of this year, the Foundation is set to release case reports on “Artificial Intelligence + Environmental Protection Governance and Practices” and “Artificial Intelligence + Healthcare Governance and Practices.” These reports will demonstrate practical applications of AI in areas like sewage and air treatment, with an initial focus on Hong Kong as a base before promoting these practices globally, especially in BRICS and Belt and Road Initiative countries. The Foundation also aims to establish a liaison mechanism to develop international AI industry standards and evaluation platforms, and to cultivate skilled AI talent through exchange and training programs.
