GE Vernova Inc. announced its agreement to acquire Alteia SAS, a France-based software company specializing in AI computer vision and machine learning. This strategic acquisition is set to significantly advance GE Vernova’s GridOS® Visual Intelligence software, empowering utilities with enhanced situational awareness and actionable insights for grid operations. The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, and the transaction is expected to close on August 1, 2025.
The integration of Alteia’s advanced AI capabilities into GE Vernova’s Electrification Software business will further its strategy to help utilities bolster their operational systems with visual data and artificial intelligence. This will enable them to reduce the probability of catastrophic events, such as wildfires and storm damage, and enhance the resilience of the grid, ensuring quicker restoration of power to customers.
GE Vernova’s GridOS® portfolio already leverages Alteia’s software within its GridOS® Visual Intelligence offering. This existing collaboration utilizes visual data and AI-enabled workflows to assist utilities in “seeing” the grid, assessing damage, identifying areas for vegetation trimming, and inspecting critical assets across vast electrical networks. The full acquisition will facilitate a deeper integration of visual data with operational data from core systems like Advanced Distribution Management Software (ADMS), allowing utilities to proactively “see and sense” the grid.
Scott Reese, CEO of GE Vernova’s Electrification Software business, highlighted the importance of this acquisition, stating, “With this acquisition, we are excited to increase our investment in a critical element of our GridOS offering. Together with the Alteia team, whose expertise will help to advance our AI- and data-centric vision for GridOS, GE Vernova will be able to solve for critical pain points that our utility customers face every day and help them use visual data and AI in an actionable way to prevent disruptions or restore power quickly.”
Michael de Lagarde, CEO of Alteia SAS, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the shared mission to simplify visual data integration and analysis for utilities. “This acquisition is more than just a strategic step – it enhances our ability to deliver advanced solutions to our clients while accelerating our AI roadmap for smarter, more efficient infrastructure operations,” said de Lagarde.
The acquisition underscores GE Vernova’s commitment to becoming a leader in data and AI for grid orchestration software, paving the way for new use cases that will enhance the visual precision vital for modern grid operations. As the demand for electricity continues to rise, driven in part by data centers supporting AI and cryptocurrency applications, advanced grid management solutions are becoming increasingly critical. This move positions GE Vernova to meet these evolving needs and contribute to a more resilient and sustainable energy future.
