In a landmark move poised to reshape its educational landscape, Saudi Arabia has rolled out a new artificial intelligence (AI) curriculum for over six million public school students. This initiative, which began with the start of the 2025-2026 academic year, is a cornerstone of the Kingdom’s ambitious Vision 2030 plan, which aims to diversify the economy and build a knowledge-based society.
The curriculum, a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education and the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), is designed to equip a new generation with the skills needed to thrive in a technology-driven world. The program will introduce students at all grade levels to the fundamentals of AI through interactive and hands-on lessons. Younger students will explore basic concepts, while older students will delve into more complex topics like data science, machine learning, and the ethical use of AI.
The goal is to move beyond mere digital literacy and foster a culture of innovation and problem-solving. By integrating AI into core subjects, students will learn to apply these tools to solve real-world problems and develop a deeper understanding of how AI influences daily life and future job markets.
Beyond the classroom, the initiative extends to national frameworks and training programs. The Saudi Academic Framework for AI Qualifications has been launched to ensure that school curricula meet global standards, boosting confidence in the competence of future Saudi graduates. Additionally, the Generative AI Academy, in partnership with technology giant NVIDIA, aims to train a new pool of skilled professionals who can compete on a global scale.
The curriculum also includes a guide for the responsible use of AI, emphasizing that the technology is meant to support and not replace teachers. The Ministry of Education has stressed the importance of preserving the central role of educators in the learning process, ensuring a balanced approach that combines technological expertise with human-centered instruction. This comprehensive approach underscores Saudi Arabia’s strategic vision to not only become a leader in AI but also to cultivate a globally competitive workforce from the ground up.
